Abstract

By applying recent advances in the “date-then-sum” methodology to a database of 145 monthly indicators of Peruvian economic activity, this study identifies six contractionary phases during the period from 1992 to 2016, with a cumulative duration of between 75 and 80 months (25 percent of a total of 300 months), and five expansionary phases, with a cumulative duration of between 220 and 225 months (75 percent). It also proposes a diffusion index that clearly marks the beginning and end of each of these phases.
