Semi-parametric estimation of equivalence scales: An application to household surveys in Peru

This research aims at estimating the equivalence scales derived from the households' consumption in Peru. Importantly, there are no studies that estimate equivalence scales for Peru. The paper considers two semi-parametric models using the National Household Survey 2014 (ENAHO). The main results indicate that, from the actual expenditures made by households, economies of scale are greater than those considered with the per capita approach as well as those scales implicit from the caloric requirements.
