Resumen:
The paper describes the evolution of interbank retail payment systems in Peru from 2005 to 2010. Credit transfers have grown rapidly in the past five years, even though the number and volume of transactions are still the lowest in the region. Hence, certain measures that would foster electronic transfers in the medium term are being implemented. These actions highlight the role of the Central Bank and the financial community in the sense that users of the financial system are encouraged to replace cash and checks by electronic instruments, particularly credit transfers.
