Problems in Measuring Inflation

Abstract

It addresses the problems of overestimation caused by the use of a Laspeyres-type index, which fails to incorporate the substitution effect in the consumption of goods and services induced by changes in relative prices, and the difficulties caused by changes in the quality of the goods and services that make up the basket used as a reference for compiling the consumer price index.
